Some sessions exist purely to create — no event to document, no timeline to follow, just a vision and the right two people to bring it to life. That’s exactly what this was. Karen and Erick, married for almost nine years and dear friends of mine, stepped into Willow Studios, Kansas City’s newest studio space, and gave me everything I was hoping for.
The studio made an immediate difference. The draping throughout the space added texture and depth, and played beautifully with shadow and light; exactly the mood we were after. Editorial, romantic, a little sexy. The kind of space that does half the work for you.
And Erick and Karen brought the rest. Nine years in, there’s an ease between two people that you can’t direct. The way they moved together, the way her hand found his jaw without being asked, the way he looked at her like it was still the beginning. It’s proof that the best images don’t only come from new love. Sometimes they come from a love that’s had nine years to get comfortable with itself.
